Gethsemane
Matthew 26:38
My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death
ReNew Sculptures
Artwork from old spiritual literature
This artwork portrays Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying in deep anguish as He asks the Father to take the cup of suffering from Him. In His humanity, He feels the weight of fear and sorrow, yet humbly surrenders, saying, “Father, not my will but Yours be done.” Though the Father remains silent, His presence surrounds the Son, symbolized by the light cutting through the darkness, guiding the unblemished Lamb toward sacrifice out of love for humanity. Bearing the world’s sin, Jesus willingly embraces despair and death so that His mission may be fulfilled.
Likewise, in our trials, we are reminded of His suffering and obedience. When tested, we too must hold firm in faith, embracing our crosses not with resistance but with trust, allowing our pain and perseverance to glorify God—just as Christ’s ultimate surrender brought redemption to all.
